Hi, I'm Sumit

This is my blog on Sitecore, .Net and Azure

The Sitecore User Group Conference (SUGCON) Europe 2024 was held on April 11-12 in Dublin, Ireland. The two-day event was a huge success with captivating sessions, an opportunity to meet and network with industry leaders, developers, and marketers, and offered a preview of the road ahead for Sitecore.

Sitecore's Jason St-Cyr has already posted a more detailed overview of the entire event in his blog: https://jasonstcyr.com/2024/04/11/sugcon-europe-2024-day-one/

Here's my quick view of the key highlights and takeaways from the event.

  • Reassurance that the Sitecore DXP (XP/XM) Platform is here to stay with support at least up to 2032 for various versions

  • No more pushing customers to upgrade or move to XM Cloud with extended support for existing Sitecore DXP versions

  • Sitecore 10.4 to be out soon (end of April) with many new features and bug fixes. Plans to release 10.5 are also underway.

  • Enabling composable integrations for the DXP platform.

  • Sitecore Connect for XConnect to be released

  • Personalization rules extensions so that custom rules can be created without needing to write code.

  • Analytics Extractor tool for XP to export xDB data for BI Integration

  • XM/XP to XM Cloud Content Migration tool

  • Releasing Sitecore DXP upgrades as modules so that new features could be easily adopted without needing a full-blown upgrade project.

  • Some modules are to be released even for the Sitecore 9 DXP platform.

  • Offering choice to customers be it with the products, the way of hosting, development, or deployment.

  • Working on improving developer experience and user experience for marketers

  • Integration of AI on the entire product lifecycle from creating content to delivering better digital experiences.

  • UX and DX Improvements for marketers and developers on all products

  • Removal of Next.js dependency on XM Cloud project implementations. Sitecore wants to build framework-agnostic products so that there are more options for development.

  • Collaboration with Frontend Masters to provide frontend training to the "traditional" Sitecore backend developers.

Closing Thoughts

Presenting for the first time as the new CEO of Sitecore, Dave O'Flanagan, in his opening keynote drove home the point that while Sitecore continues to develop and evolve their SaaS Products, they will continue to support and modernize the DXP Platform. I think this will give huge confidence to all the customers who are on XP/XM and do not wish to migrate to the headless XM Cloud soon. AI, the usual suspect in every event these times, was also mentioned, and how it could be integrated into every aspect of the product lifecycle. Sitecore has recognized XM Cloud's reliance on Next.js and is actively striving to eliminate it, thus paving the way for a framework-agnostic solution. This strategic move underscores Sitecore's commitment to broadening XM Cloud's capabilities and providing alternative avenues for crafting solutions.

Apart from the highlights mentioned above, there were sessions on various Sitecore topics that were very useful. Eagerly waiting to rewatch the videos of these sessions once they are made available on the SUGCON Youtube channel. Interacting with the Sitecore community members in person is always a high point of any Sitecore event. I'm already looking forward to the SUGCON Europe next year.
